Wow, those clips from 24 are quite shocking. I think it's true that 24 has been upping the ante with what takes place in its episodes. I watched Season 3 last year (which I just lent to Kosuke) and then Series 5 a couple of weeks ago.
I didn't see Series 4, but I noticed a distinct jump up in the action. In Series 3, most of the threats are thwarted, but in Series 5 a series of attacks succeed, and some were really quite shocking. I feel like it's starting to become the playing out of a fantasy about the threat that we are told we are under, but somehow doesn't seem to happen (assuming that they really exist and that if they do, the security services are thwarting them).
And the video makes a good point about how 24 gives the impression that last minute torture of suspects to save the innocents is an effective and legitimate method.
